Homemade Tzatziki Sauce with freeze-dried option
This classic Greek Homemade Tzatziki sauce is creamy, tangy, and bursting with fresh flavour. You’ll never regret making it! It’s perfect as a dip, spread, or topping for gyros, grilled meats, veggies, or pita bread.

Ingredients for Homemade Tzatziki Sauce
1 cup plain Greek yogurt (strained for a thicker consistency, if desired)
1 cucumber (English cucumber preferred, or peel and seed a regular cucumber) OR use freeze dried cucumber!
2–3 garlic cloves, finely minced or grated
2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Method for Homemade Tzatziki Sauce
Prepare the Cucumber (if using fresh):
Grate the cucumber using a box grater or food processor.
Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out as much water as possible to avoid a watery sauce.
*If NOT using fresh cucumber and using convenient freeze-dried, you get to skip this step and just skip to the next step!
Combine Ingredients:
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, dill, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. If using mint, add it now.
Mix and Chill:
Stir everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed (e.g., more lemon juice, garlic, or salt).
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
Serve:
Serve chilled as a dip, spread, or sauce. Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprig of dill or mint, if desired.
